Le maître de la comédie américaine est allemand. Invité conjointement par Mary Pickford et les frères Warner à rejoindre Hollywood en 1922, Lubitsch est en Allemagne un réalisateur de grands succès populaires. L’élégance et la sophistication d’un style basé sur un sens de l’ellipse et du dialogue exceptionnels feront de lui un des emblèmes du grand Hollywood des années 30-40. Il dirigera la Paramount sans cesser de tourner des comédies dont le caractère léger en apparence n’est pas non plus indifférent aux réalités historiques.
Ouverture du cycle mercredi 14 décembre à 21h avec la projection de Sérénade à Trois, suivie d'une leçon de cinéma de Charlotte Garson.
